Groundwater plays a key role in underground constructions both in the construction phases and in the exploitation phase of the infrastructure. The challenges with the subsurface conditions is that groundwater is flowing in a complex medium which may be porous, fractured or both, making measurements of flow, quantity, or representative quality of the water difficult because not directly accessible.
